What is a soft signal, really?

Soft signals are a quiet third option between texting through it and saying nothing at all. Here's how they work and why they help.

Why pre-shaped helps

When you're flooded, language gets sharp. Pre-shaped phrases protect both of you from words you didn't quite mean. They give your nervous system a small win — you reached without risking more rupture.
